Als er een grote hoeveelheid water is, kan men de reactie compleet maken. People called this reaction as transesterification. Transesterification is also reversible. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/integratechem.com\/triethyl-citrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">triethyl citrate<\/a> reacts with n-butanol to produce <a href=\"https:\/\/integratechem.com\/tributyl-citrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tributyl citrate<\/a> and ethanol.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\" class=\"\">Esters kunnen reageren met ammoniak om amides te vormen. Men acetyleert bijvoorbeeld triethylcitraat om CAS-nr. 77 89 4 <a href=\"\" target=\"\" rel=\"\">acetyltriethylcitraat<\/a> te produceren. <\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\" class=\"\">Esters kunnen reageren met Grignard-reagentia om tertiaire alcoholen te vormen.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"\">Esters zijn gemakkelijker te reduceren dan carbonzuren. In synthese reduceert men vaak carboxylzuren tot alcoholen door middel van esters. Het meest gebruikte reductiemiddel is natrium plus ethanol. De resulterende alcohol is ofwel de alcohol die gebruikt is in de oorspronkelijke veresteringsreactie of de primaire alcohol die ontstaat door de reductie van de acylgroep.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conditions-for-the-hydrolysis-of-cas-no-77-89-4\">Voorwaarden voor de <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hydrolysis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hydrolyse<\/a> van CAS-nr. 77 89 4<\/h2>\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\" class=\"\">De omstandigheden voor de hydrolyse van esters zijn onder andere zuur en alkalisch. <\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\" class=\"\">Onder zure omstandigheden gaat esterhydrolyse meestal gepaard met verhitting met verdund zwavelzuur, wat een onvolledige hydrolyse en een omkeerbare reactie is.
